Everyone hopes that being a family will be easy and enjoyable but special challenges can arise from conception to delivery, and from the early years and into adolescence. It is important for all parents to feel that they can help their children meet his or her potential – but nobody can do this without support.
We offer families support and expert care from specialist clinicians including paediatricians; perinatal, infant, child and adolescent mental health clinicians; GP lactation consultant; dietitian; family and couple therapists; and a number of evidence based group programs.
All our clinicians work from a relationship-based perspective – this means we want to work with you collaboratively, and we want to help you to have a strong relationship with your partner, your other family members and each of your children. When children feel that their relationship with their parent is strong, they do better in life – whatever their individual potential.

I am the mother of a three year old boy and I have struggled at times with parenting. The Elizabeth Clinic has been an amazing resource for me in those stressful times. Their professionalism, knowledge and wide range of health professionals has given me confidence and strategies to be a better mother and therefore create a more trusting and bonding relationship with my little boy. One of the amazing services that The Elizabeth Clinic provides is group led parenting education sessions called, the ‘Circle of Security’. It was explained to me by a health care professional at The Elizabeth Clinic as the only parenting education that you ever need and that she still used it with her teenage children. So I started the Circle of Security. There is a crèche available for these sessions which is free. If your child isn’t ‘on the move’ those children were normally in the sessions. If your child wants you, the amazing women in the crèche will bring your child to you throughout each session. The health professional that leads these sessions is knowledgeable, effectively focuses on every member in the group and teaches the principles of Circle of Security in a way that you can’t forget them. I noticed soon after beginning the Circle of Security that my relationship with my son became more secure. This was due to having a greater understanding of my son’s emotional world by learning in these sessions how to read his emotional needs, how to manage his emotions and how to help him develop a healthy self esteem. My relationship with my boy has strengthened so much and I feel like my entire family laughs and delights in each other so much more now. In addition, I was able to meet great people that are going through exactly the same thing and am still in contact with these people even though the Circle of Security sessions have ended.

I just wanted to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support in this pregnancy and the birth of our beautiful second daughter. I saw a lot of clinicians before….and felt I wasn’t quite understood accurately until I came to your clinic and Julia suggested I had severe anxiety and OCD…..and I thought “yes that is me!”. Funnily, enough, once learning about postnatal OCD (and being ok with it and using some CBT) the intrusive thoughts decreased dramatically and so did the worrying and anxiety. As a result of your support (and phone calls whilst I was in hospital), Caroline’s consultation after the birth (super helpful!) and Anne’s very supportive phone call check ups, I can honestly say, I am really enjoying this newborn experience! Whilst I didn’t hit crisis point until 5-6 months last time….I still had anxiety from the beginning. This is a much more enjoyable experience – thanks to all of you! It has impacted positively on my relationship with my husband, my toddler, my family and honestly, every aspect of my life. Thank you for changing my life……
Elizabeth Clinic Patient,
I found the course very helpful in providing a practicable parenting model. The course provided self-reflection on our relationship which helped reset any built up resentment created by PND. I feel that the course would be more beneficial with earlier intervention with the fathers (one on one). Living with a partner who was suffering anxiety, isolation and what appeared to be a form of depression. I felt extremely isolated, as I could offer rational support and suggestions to her, but her situation was too overwhelming for her to acknowledge or act. This course has guided her into the light with an amazing change in her self-belief and general outlook (not overwhelmed by any situation). My isolation, as the one who has had to stand stronger in her time of need made me at time question whether this was how it was going to be or whether our life or relationship would ever improve. When you need to go to work, have the pressure of providing for your family, difficult economic times, challenges at work, lack of sleep and worrying about your family at home, life gets very difficult and demanding. Therefore I would have benefitted with a session to help me confirm that I was still in a rational state of mind, a pick me up chat to say hang in there, it is all about to change now that she has made the step into the Pathways course.
I have learnt so much about myself, and why I do and feel certain ways. I just could not have made this type of progress on my own, and while I know I still have a way to go, I am so grateful that I was able to participate in this group as it has had a profound effect on my thinking styles, self awareness, thoughts and styles around being a mother and parenting. All three group facilitators were excellent.
